7 Step Guide to Jump-Start a Vehicle by CMH Isuzu Umhlanga

Getting stuck with a dead battery can be frustrating, but jump-starting your vehicle is a simple and easy process. CMH Isuzu Umhlanga has put together a 7 step guide on how to Jump-Start a vehicle.

CMH Isuzu - Jumper Cables

What You’ll Need:

  • A working vehicle with a charged battery
  • Jumper cables
CMH Isuzu - Vehicle facing each other

Step 1: Position the Vehicles

Park the working vehicle close to the dead vehicle, make sure the batteries are within reach of the jumper cables. Make sure both vehicles are turned off and the parking brakes are engaged

Step 2: Open the Bonnet

Open the Bonnets of both vehicles and find the batteries. Identify the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals.

Step 3: Connect the Jumper Cables

  • Attach Red Cable: Connect one end of the red jumper cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery and the other end of the cable to the positive terminal of the working battery
  • Attach Black Cable: Connect one end of the black cable to the negative terminal of the working battery. Attach the other end to an unpainted metal surface or a ground on the dead vehicle (not directly to the battery).

Step 4: Start the Working Vehicle

Start the engine of the working vehicle and let it run for a few minutes to charge the dead battery.

Step 5: Start the Dead Vehicle

Try starting the dead vehicle. If it doesn’t start, wait a few more minutes and try again.

Step 6: Disconnect the Cables

Once the dead vehicle starts, carefully remove the cables in reverse order.

Step 7: Let the dead vehicle run

Keep the revived vehicle running for at least 20 minutes to recharge the battery fully.

Now you’re ready to hit the road again! Always consult your vehicle’s manual for specific instructions.

It is good to keep a set of Jumper Cables in your vehicle. You never know when you may need it!

CMH Isuzu Umhlanga hopes this helps you, if you ever need to do this.
