7 Step Guide to Jump-Start a Vehicle by CMH Isuzu Umhlanga

October 30, 2024 By Rokkit

7 Step Guide to Jump-Start a Vehicle by CMH Isuzu Umhlanga

Getting stuck with a dead battery can be frustrating, but jump-starting your vehicle is a simple and easy process. CMH Isuzu Umhlanga has put together a 7 step guide on how to Jump-Start a vehicle.

CMH Isuzu - Jumper Cables

What You’ll Need:

  • A working vehicle with a charged battery
  • Jumper cables
CMH Isuzu - Vehicle facing each other

Step 1: Position the Vehicles

Park the working vehicle close to the dead vehicle, make sure the batteries are within reach of the jumper cables. Make sure both vehicles are turned off and the parking brakes are engaged

CMH Isuzu - Connecting cable to the battery

Step 2: Open the Bonnet

Open the Bonnets of both vehicles and find the batteries. Identify the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals.

CMH Isuzu - Vehicle facing each other

Step 3: Connect the Jumper Cables

  • Attach Red Cable: Connect one end of the red jumper cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery and the other end of the cable to the positive terminal of the working battery
  • Attach Black Cable: Connect one end of the black cable to the negative terminal of the working battery. Attach the other end to an unpainted metal surface or a ground on the dead vehicle (not directly to the battery).

Step 4: Start the Working Vehicle

Start the engine of the working vehicle and let it run for a few minutes to charge the dead battery.

Step 5: Start the Dead Vehicle

Try starting the dead vehicle. If it doesn’t start, wait a few more minutes and try again.

Step 6: Disconnect the Cables

Once the dead vehicle starts, carefully remove the cables in reverse order.

Step 7: Let the dead vehicle run

Keep the revived vehicle running for at least 20 minutes to recharge the battery fully.

Now you’re ready to hit the road again! Always consult your vehicle’s manual for specific instructions.

It is good to keep a set of Jumper Cables in your vehicle. You never know when you may need it!

CMH Isuzu Umhlanga hopes this helps you, if you ever need to do this.

Introducing IDAS

April 5, 2022 By Rokkit

IDAS is the future, and the future is now.

IDAS

IDAS, Isuzu’s “Intelligent Driver Assistance System” is a whole new world of class-leading technology designed to keep you at the utmost level of safety on the road. IDAS consists of a few elements that work together harmoniously. CMH Isuzu Umhlanga is here to tell you just how this innovative system from Isuzu will become an indispensable part of your motoring!

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)

As if on cue, your vehicle will apply automatic emergency brakes should a collision be detected.

Forward Collision Warning

When there is an object is detected in your path, warning lights and sounds are emitted from the dashboard saving you from what could be a nasty situation.

Post Collision Braking

During a collision when the airbags have been deployed and the central locking has been automatically deactivated, automatic braking will be applied. This will help bring your Isuzu to a safe stop.

Miss-acceleration Mitigation

When your vehicle is in slow-moving areas such as parking areas, cameras will detect if your accelerator has been pressed by a slip of the foot. Brakes will be applied automatically should a collision be detected.

Turn Assist with AEB

Playing as your guardian angel, during a turn, if a potential collision is detected your Isuzu’s emergency brakes are automatically applied.

Rain Sensing Automatic Wipers

In wet conditions the automatic rain-sensing wipers will wipe the windscreens and will also adjust the speed of the wipers as needed. This will allow you to enjoy the journey effortlessly.

Infrared Windscreen

Our infrared windscreen blocks out UVA and UVB rays. This is ideal for those long summer journeys under the southern sun as it maintains a cool temperature in the front of the vehicle.

Automatic Headlights and High Beams

Once it’s dark such as at night or in an underground area, the headlights automatically switch on. When travelling, the high beams are automatically lowered if another vehicle is detected approaching you, keeping their visibility in mind.

Airbags

Isuzu’s innovation of having an airbag between the two front seats brings the total amount of airbags to eight in the vehicle increasing your safety during a collision.

Blind Spot Monitoring

Should a vehicle be detected in your blind spot, the driver will receive a warning.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert

Your surroundings are monitored when backing into traffic such as coming out of a parking space. You will receive warnings if any objects are detected coming from either side.

Rear Radar

We’ll have your back, so you won’t have to with our rear radar and reverse camera assisting you in backing into any tough spot.

How CMH Isuzu Umhlanga got our 4X4 on!

November 18, 2021 By Rokkit

When it comes to off-road adventures, there is no better companion than an Isuzu. CMH Isuzu Umhlanga recently experienced off-roading at the Killarney 4×4 Track in KZN at the Isuzu Driving Academy, an experience we won’t soon forget. The team had the opportunity to observe the experts at work and then try out their skills!

Here’s what the CMH Isuzu Umhlanga sales team had to say about their day out:

“Before driving the vehicle, we were taken through some of the specs of the vehicle’s 4×4 capabilities: • The radiator space is bigger than its competitors. • The height space between the bonnet and engine components is larger (because in South Africa we have animals on the road, producing much more front-end damage than in Thailand. • The tailgate has three hinges allowing it to hold a weight of 750kg!

During the 4×4 track, where your wheels drive through different level holes, we were quite impressed with how stable we were in the back seat, with little to no sliding. If you stop the vehicle and engage 4L, you can hear the vehicle click over as you press the accelerator. As for the MUX, it handled all challenges without any issues whatsoever.

A Safety tip learned, when in water, take your safety belt off and open windows before entering the river!”- Donna McCulloch, Dealer Principal

“The Killarney 4×4 Track has got some amazingly challenging 4×4 routes, but not challenging enough for our Isuzu vehicles. We went through the toughest terrain with absolute ease and grace. The information that we received from the trainers was a revelation as we don’t always interact with our clients about all the necessary features and capabilities of our 4×4 range the way the experts do.

My favourite part of the day was being able to let the vehicle go downhill all by itself. The vehicle had hill-descent control, which allowed you to travel down steep slopes at 4kph without touching the brakes. You might find it scary, but once you have done it, it’s quite exhilarating!

All my 4×4 training has given me a better understanding of the vehicles’ capabilities. I am amazed at how powerful and capable they are. In addition to giving you confidence in a 4×4 environment, Isuzu vehicles have been adapted to our rigid environment with different shocks, brakes, and tyres.

I’m sure the 4×4 market for Isuzu is going to become a front runner like its Australian counterparts.”- Adrian Van Vuuren, New Vehicles Sales Manager

“What I really enjoyed about the Isuzu 4×4 training with the Isuzu Driving Academy was taking the 4×4 on the different and in some cases quite challenging routes on the South African terrain, but the Isuzu 4×4 showed that no obstacle is too hard for it to overcome. From going up a steep rocky slope and having to make our way down, we then engaged the Hill Descent Control (HDC) to allow for a smooth hill descent at a controlled speed. Changing over from 4×2 into 4×4 is a very simple process and user-friendly with turning the 4×4 switch to 4L without having to come to a complete stand-still and having the vehicle in neutral. The experience was thrilling, and I would definitely recommend it to all proud 4×4 owners!”- Sydney Campbell, New Vehicle Sales Executive

“The presentation of the vehicles was impressive, with touchpoint decals strategically placed around the vehicle to highlight its unique selling points (USP). This is what is commonly called “FAB” (Features, Advantages, Benefits). Listed below are just a few examples. • Hill Start Assist – this prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards on a hill and gives the driver 3 seconds to control the vehicle. • Hill Descent Control – this feature assists the driver in going down a hill by taking control of the vehicle and only requiring steering. The driver relinquishes control of the vehicle to the computerized system. It’s exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. • 4×4 Command dial – This is one of the features that impressed me the most. The driver can engage from 2H to 4H while the vehicle is traveling below 100km/h. The driver does not need to stop to engage. This provides maximum traction and control when you are driving on gravel, sandy, or rocky roads.

Another fact brought to my attention is how many improvements are made to the Thailand vehicles to accommodate uniquely South African conditions, like our heat and cold weather temperatures and dust as a factor. • Radiator size and space is improved. • Turbo and intercooler are totally redesigned for South Africa • Class-leading sheet metal thickness is used on all body panels. • Redesigned and improved suspension • High-density foam sprayed throughout the vehicle to prevent dust from entering the cab

All these lead to our vehicle being one of the best-selling commercial vehicles in the country and prove that Isuzu lives up to its promise of reliability and durability!”- Riaz Fakir, New Vehicles Sales Executive

We always knew that Isuzu vehicles were made of something special, but for us to experience exactly what they can do at first hand, left us in awe. We have sharpened our skills and expanded our knowledge of the 4×4 world and are fully confident that we can assist you at an expert level when it comes to taking on those tough terrains!

CMH Isuzu Umhlanga’s Off-Roading for Dummies Guide!

March 1, 2021 By Rokkit

Dreaming of those off-roading adventures with your brand-new Isuzu 4X4 but not quite the expert yet? Fear not! CMH Isuzu Umhlanga brings you our “Off-Roading for Dummies” guide! We want you to make the most of your new bakkie. And with this simple guide of the do’s and don’ts for any adventure, you will soon be driving with confidence and ease.
Off-Roading
Like many great adventurers, one must plan properly! Have your route mapped out, emergency supplies packed and have enough rest to ensure you remain alert and ready to tackle any challenge you may encounter. Supplies like first aid, snacks and fuel could be lifesaving! Now that we have made sure we are stocked up; it is time to embark on our mighty trip… But is your bakkie ready? Here are a few things to check on your bakkie before you embark on this journey:

Tyre Tread

To ensure your vehicle has a good grip on the ground, it is important to have the correct tyre tread, a deep tyre tread with spaces between the lugs allows for your tyres to grip onto the ground while also not letting mud get stuck between the grooves of the tread. All terrain tyres are a great option for adventures in any setting, be it mud, snow or your regular city roads.

Tyre Pressure

Having the correct tyre pressure is certainly vital to your travel, knowing the correct tyre pressure for the terrain you are travelling on is important. For instance, a softer terrain like mud or sand requires a lower tyre pressure, which increases the amount of traction your vehicle has, allowing you to safely navigate your journey.

Brakes

We think this one speaks for itself!
Off-Roading
Isuzu Umhlanga’s Off-Roading
Great! Now that you and your vehicle are prepped and ready, let us talk about technique! While we are not saying you must be a 4X4 expert, but you do need to know how to finesse your bakkie through some rough roads, and what better way to learn how than to take an off-roading course like the ones offered at the Isuzu Driving Academy! But for now, here is some advice we can offer to enhance your skills:
  • Manage your speed, exploring must be savored, and keeping a slow speed in muddy or soft roads allows your vehicle to maintain its grip and allow you to pass through loose rocks or logs smoothly.
  • Drive straight down ruts and steep hills to avoid having your vehicle slide or roll over, if you feel your vehicle is sliding, try to turn the vehicle around and go down the side you are sliding down. Stop! If you are close to an edge, switch your vehicle off, make sure your seat belts are on and call for help.
  • Survey the road ahead and always try to make sure you know what is in your path before you encounter it, this will allow you to prepare how you will follow through the obstacle. When it comes to crossing ditches, logs or boulders, cross at an angle so that one tyre goes over at a time and the other three can assist with traction and force needed to get over these obstacles.
Off-Roading We think we have given you enough basics to set you off on your next big adventure. We know you will have the best time with your more than capable Isuzu, built to last and built for to be enjoyed! If you are still not feeling confident to take on the open roads of South Africa, contact the experts at CMH Isuzu Umhlanga on 031 582 6350 or www.umhlangaisuzu.co.za and we’d be more than happy to advise you on your next trip!
